Affectionately called Grammy more because of her appearance when she arrived at Longmeadow than her actual age, this pony is ready for a forever home. Grammy came in with a large herd of neglected horses. She is blind in her right eye but has adjusted very well. She appears to have lost her site from an old injury. Grammy looks like a new gal, more like a young hip grammy!Our trainers discovered that she has previously been trained for riding. They have ridden her at the walk, trot and canter. At the canter she does require a lot of support from her rider’s leg but this will improve with consistent work. She has a fast but comfortable trot. We are recommending her for an intermediate rider just because she is a bit overconfident on her blind side where she will run into things if not guided. We recently discovered that Grammy has minimal vision in her left eye as well. The vet thinks she only sees shadows. She would be great as a lead line horse for children without riding experience. She can also be ridden by an intermediate rider who can be aware they will need to actively steer her to keep her from running into things. Grammy does have Cushings or PPID. She requires daily medication and periodic blood tests by your veterinarian.Grammy is great for the vet and farrier. At this time, she does need to have her teeth checked by a vet every 6 months.
