Sugar Bay Reed, aka Sugar, is a gorgeous 7 year old bay AQHA mare. Sugar is by Dual Lena San by Dual Pep and out of Marlenas Peppy by Lots Of Acres, who is by Bob Acre Doc. Sugar stands 14 hands and her personality fits her name. Sheâs as sweet as can be, not mareish at all, and extremely quiet and willing.Sugar has had a slow start, due to no fault of her own. Her owner is 78 years old and owns Sugarâs mother. Sugar was born, raised and started by the same owner her whole life. As a 3 year old she spent 60 days with a cowhorse trainer where she worked on fine tuning her skills, gathered cattle, crossed rough terrain and was used on a daily basis to add to her odometer. When she returned, she was lightly ridden, as she was mostly ridden by grandkids and visitors. At 5 years old, she had a 60 day tune-up with a horsemanship trainer. She continued to her lighter riding lifestyle when she returned, being used half a dozen times or so each year. She recently has come to us for a tune-up and has taken everything in stride.Sugar tackles obstacles with confidence, is not phased by noise, dogs, guns, machinery, tarps, flags, water, etc. Sugar has an amazing ground covering walk and smooth as butter jog. She extends her trot without even lifting her head and transitions beautifully. Her lope is like a rocking horse. She stops with a âwhoaâ and has a horsemanship quality turn on the haunches. Sugar will sidepass anywhere you want to go without a swish of the tail and sheâs plenty happy to stand and wait patiently.Sugarâs kind personality and sweet disposition would make her an exceptional 4-H youth horse. She love kids, attention and is as patient as they come. She may not be an âexpertâ in a specific discipline, but she has all the necessary tools to be exactly what you want. She could easily be finished for Ranch Riding or Ranch Reining and sheâs no slacker in the sorting department either. She does amazing with timid riders all the way to advanced. Sheâs confident on the trails or arena.Sugar stands for saddling, bathing, grooming, farrier, vet and trailer loads and unloads quietly. Sheâs an easy keeper, gets along with mares, geldings and a mini donkey too! Sheâs not at the bottom and not at the top of the pecking order, she fits right in with anyone. Sugar had a few days where she was âoffâ slightly at the trot when she was first put to work. We had a vet exam her and they gave her a clean bill of health and cleared her for continued exercise. We had front shoes put on her as a precaution and sheâs been perfectly sound.
