Praline came to us, malnourished and suffering from external parasites. Like most of the horses who are rescued and brought to Longmeadow, she needed vet and farrier care. We started Praline on a strict refeeding diet, as we did with the three other mares she came in with, and before we knew it, she had gained all of her weight back! Praline did arrive with a small growth, which our vet removed and tested. The growth was cancerous and although it was removed, a future adopter will need to check the area every couple of months. As soon as she was up to date on the rest of her medical care, our trainer began her evaluation.Praline was comfortable with a saddle on her back and allowed a rider to mount. She remembered the basics, like “woah” and “back,” but needed a bit of a refresher on how to move forward. While she is a bit buddy sour when being removed from her herd, we believe an intermediate handler could work on this. She will need a 30-60 day refresher under saddle to be ready for an intermediate adopter. While Praline can be ridden, her adopter should know that she is not entirely sound. Upon arriving to Longmeadow, we found Praline had old, scarred injuries on her hocks. Radiographs showed no changes to the joint, but we believe she would do best in a home who does light to moderate riding.Maximum carrying weight: 220 lb (tack plus rider)Height:14.3hhAdoption Fee: $800
