DJ - Female Appaloosa
- DJ is doing so well She is excelling at being a teacher to those just learning to work with horses. Sweet funny and ready to excel with a person of her own DJ Is a Few Spot Appaloosa- DJ was part of a massive seizure of badly neglected starved abused horses in fall . At the time DJ was horribly emaciated (body score of .) and she was afraid of people and handling and would rapidly defend herself with her hooves. In May the ASPCA National Office asked CWER if we would accept any of the most difficult and at risk horses still in custody from this enormous case. We agreed to accept DJ and companions-- special needs horses that we felt would fit well into our rehab and training programs -- and they arrived at CWER. DJ has pink skin which leads to exsive sunburn and some other potial skin care challenges but has no major skin issues other than summer sunburn. DJ does have vision issues the vets at Purdue could not identify them clearly she responds to light and has little to no uveitis but she clearly has difficulty seeing bumps into things spooks at shadows etc. Otherwise DJ has no signs of any sort of health challenges. She is overw active and playful with the other horses. DJ has some vision limitations and requires an intermediate horse person who understands that she could startle in an unusual situation. She is just started under saddle but doing incredibly well...trusting her handler on the ground then the rider on her back. Currently she needs a trainer to continue her education.
