20 Year Old Rocky Mountain Gelding Ready for His Next Western Adventure

$1,600 OBOGus is an exciting and energetic Rocky Mountain Horse. He is gated and used mainly for trail riding. He has a very calm demeanor about him, but when the reins get put on him and he sees the open trail ahead he loves to kick it into 4th gear and ride free. He has a great run cadence and a smooth run-walk when heâs able to find his pace about him. He does well with kids and is very calm around them. Heâs been desensitized to a large amount of noises, mainly due to the helicopters flying above him throughout each day. I have yet to see him get spooked while riding him on the trail. I have put two children on him in the saddle and he walked ever so slowly and gave no issues when being lead around the area. I have owned Gus for a year and have done an extensive amount of ground work with him. When I got him he was great for trail riding but lacked the respect. So we started from the ground up and so much progress has been made. Gus is very loyal to his person, but it takes time to earn his trust. When heâs a little too excited when exiting his paddock, it takes about 5 minutes of soft ground work to get his attention back onto me and he then is in a more relaxed state. I do my best to correct on the spot when the command prompt isnât followed. Heâs extremely intelligent and is able to pick up on new tricks and commands easily. Gus does not like to stand still when the foot is placed in the stirrup. He's currently doing this circling, backing-up movement that he likes to do when he knows you are about to mount. But, once you're on the saddle, he settles right down. Currently doing ground work to adjust his attitude, but he's holding firm in his mindset as of now.Currently, Gus requires an experienced rider who can correct on the spot when in the saddle. He challenges sometimes in the saddle when new things are introduced or when he wants to do it his way, but with the tools used when doing the ground work with him, he remembers right away the right thing to do. He sees the farrier every 6 weeks and has great feet. Very sure footed. The dentist worked on his teeth last spring and said he will be good for the next 2 years, potentially longer. No issues with his mouth and takes the bit like a champ. He is up to date on all shots and his coggins was completed in January. He is dewormed every 4 months.He catches very nicely in the pasture. He can see me from across the field and heâll walk right up to me without me having to leave the gate to go find him. Gus is an introverted horse and doesnât really get with the âherdâ mentality. Most times he will be with his stable buddy off to the side or by himself grazing.
